FAQ

Everything you need to know about learning to ride with Atlanta Bicycle Classes (ABC).

1. Who are your classes for?

Our classes are for anyone who wants to learn how to ride a bike, improve their biking skills, or build confidence on two wheels. We teach:

  • Children (ages 5+), teens, and adults

  • Special needs individuals

  • People recovering from injury or trauma

Whether you're brand new, relearning, or working through fear, we meet you where you are—with patience, skill, and care.

2. I’ve never ridden a bike before. Is that okay?

Yes! That’s our specialty. We love helping first-timers and “late bloomers” learn in a judgment-free, supportive environment at their own pace.

3. What kind of instruction do you offer?

We offer:

  • Private lessons for kids, adults, and families

  • Small group classes

  • Bike safety education (laws, tips, and riding best practices)

  • Homeschool, afterschool, and summer programs

  • Specialized rides: Bike Therapy, Bike Tours, and Joy Ride Clinics

All beginners sessions are designed to build confidence, balance, and control while encouraging fun and self-trust.  Intermediate rides are also available.

4. Where do the lessons take place?

Most lessons are held at the Lionel Hampton Trail near MLK Jr. Drive.
📍 Parking Address: 366 Willis Mill Road SW, Atlanta, GA 30311
🚻 Note: There are no bathrooms on-site. Please use the restroom before arriving.

We can also travel to your neighborhood! A $60 scouting fee and $60 per session travel fee apply.

5. Do I need my own bike and helmet?

It’s great if you have your own bike—you’ll feel more comfortable and can practice between sessions. But if not, we’ve got you covered:

  • Bike + Helmet Rental: $25 per private session/or bike ride clinic

  • Bike + Helmet Rental: $12 per small group class

  • Helmet Only: $7 (we recommend purchasing your own)

Be sure to tell us your height and what equipment you need in the assessment form. https://forms.gle/swcpnLTLem6W35wG6

6. How long is a lesson?

Lessons are 45–60 minutes, depending on the student’s attention span and ability.

We recommend starting with our 4 or 6 -class package for steady growth and better retention.

7. What should I wear or bring?

  • Wear: lightweight pants, closed-toe shoes

  • Women/girls: Wear a hairstyle that works with a helmet (low ponytails or hair down—no hard beads or fasteners)

  • Bring: water, a snack, bug repellent

Dress for comfort and movement!

8. What’s your teaching style like?

Founder Shakeesha Semone meets people exactly where they are. Her patient, present, and holistic style blends yoga-based breathwork and balance into lessons—helping riders feel calm, safe, and confident.

9. How do I book a lesson?

Start by filling out our assessment and waiver form:

Once we receive your form, we’ll contact you to confirm scheduling. After payment is received via Venmo or CashApp, your lesson is officially booked.

10. What’s your cancellation or rescheduling policy?

Please give at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule.

  • Late cancellations (under 24 hours) will forfeit the lesson.

  • You can reinstate the missed lesson for $100.

11. Do you offer gift certificates?

Yes! Surprise someone with the gift of confidence, wellness, and freedom.

🎁 Email [email protected] or text 404-324-2155 to request a digital gift certificate for private lessons, group classes, or ride clinics.

12. How do I prepare my child for their first lesson?

Let them know it’s going to be fun! We use encouragement, games, and simple step-by-step guidance. No pressure—just learning at their own pace with positive vibes.

13. Do you teach how to ride an eBike?

Yes, we do! However, students must have at least 6 months of regular bicycle riding experience first. eBikes can reach speeds up to 20 mph on flat roads, so we prioritize safety and strong foundational riding skills before moving to motorized bikes.

14. What if I already know how to ride a bike? What do you offer me?

If you're already riding, we offer next-level cycling experiences:

  • Bike Tours (explore Atlanta on two wheels)

  • Bike Therapy Rides (movement meets mindfulness in nature)

  • Joy Ride Clinics (fun, community-focused group rides with skills-building)

Perfect for building confidence in traffic, on trails, or just having a blast.
